Equatorial Holdings was established in 2000 with the first Debonairs Pizza store opening at the Main Mall in Gaborone.
Retail Group was formed in March 2002 as a subsidiary of Equatorial Holdings Botswana as a result of the acquisition of the Steers, Debonairs Pizza master license agreements for Botswana from Famous Brands Ltd. The Wimpy master license agreement was later acquired in 2005 licenses. The organization has subsequently been restructured and Retail Group is now a multiple casual dining and quick service restaurant operating company and multiple master licensee. The company further owns the majority share in Peak Yamaha, a motorcycle dealership in Gaborone.
There are currently 37 businesses within the Retail Group umbrella, across Botswana.
The group currently consists of 25 Debonairs Pizza outlets, 3 Milky Lane & Co outlets, 1 company-run Wimpy restaurant, 5 Steers outlets, and 3 company-run Mugg & Bean restaurants. Retail Group is the master licensee for the Debonairs Pizza, Wimpy, Milky Lane, Steers and Mugg & Bean franchises in Botswana. There are currently 8 Franchised Wimpy outlets.
Retail Group provides employment to approximately 1,200 Batswana, with an estimated further 300 individuals employed across the Franchised restaurants.
