The first Steers restaurant was opened in 1960 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Steers founder, George Halamandress had the vision to create a successful family-run business. The idea for Steers originated while he was on holiday in the United States where he came across innovative food industry concepts and ideas. He decided to bring these new food industry methods to South Africa. Steers has seen massive growth by expanding beyond South Africa into countries like Botswana, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Mauritius, Zambia, Tanzania and Ivory Coast.
Steers came to Botswana in the late 1990’s under Famous Brands. Famous Brands Franchised to Retail Group and opened its first restaurant at Sebele centre in November 2014 and Palapye December 2015. There are currently three Steers Locations in Botswana; Sebele Centre in Gaborone, Palapye and Galo Mall in Francistown.
